Nurses across India have to be registered with a state nursing council to work as an approved Nurse. Once a Nurse finish his/her professional nursing course such as ANM, GNM, B.Sc Nuring, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, M.Sc Nursing, etc they have to register with their respective State Nursing Council. If they upgrade themselves with new qualifications, they have to present it to the Nursing Council again.
Nursing registration has to be renewed every 5 years in most of the Nursing councils. As of now, the candidates have to complet 150 hours to academic activity before renewing their Nursing Council registration. The candidates have to present their relevant certificates during the time of renewal.
Along with this Government has established Indian Nursing Council (INC) based in New Delhi (8th Floor , NBCC Center, Plot No. 2, Community Center, Okhla Phase I, New Delhi, Delhi 110020). It has started to issue NUID to Nurses across India. You can receive your NUID by registering yourself with NRTS (Nurses Registration and Tracking System). The ID works as a live register of Nurses.

However, every nurse has to register themselves with their own State Nursing Councils such as Andhra Pradesh Nurses & Midwives Council, Chattisgarh Nursing Council, Delhi Nursing Council, Punjab Nurses Registration Council, etc in order to practice as a nurse.
